SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME, YEAR B

BAPTISM - John the Baptist (The Forerunner of Jesus) ClassNotes.ng

– Psalms 40:2, 4, 7-8, 8-9, 10

R. (8a and 9a) Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will.

2 I have waited, waited for the LORD, and he stooped toward me and heard my cry. 4AB And he put a new song into my mouth, a hymn to our God. R. Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will.

7 Sacrifice or offering you wished not, but ears open to obedience you gave me. Holocausts or sin-offerings you sought not; 8A then said I, “Behold I come.” R. Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will.

8B1 “In the written scroll it is prescribed for me, 9 to do your will, O my God, is my delight, and your law is within my heart!” R. Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will.

10 I announced your justice in the vast assembly; I did not restrain my lips, as you, O LORD, know. R. Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will.

Alleluia For SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME, Year B

– John 1:41, 17B

R. Alleluia, alleluia. 41 We have found the Messiah: 17B Jesus Christ, who brings us truth and grace. R. Alleluia, alleluia.

35 Again, the next day, John was standing with two of his disciples,

36 and he looked at Jesus as he walked, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God!”

37 The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.

38 Jesus turned, and saw them following, and said to them, “What are you looking for?” They said to him, “Rabbi” (which is to say, being interpreted, Teacher), “where are you staying?”

39 He said to them, “Come, and see.” They came and saw where he was staying, and they stayed with him that day. It was about the tenth hour.

40 And Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, was one of the two who had heard of John, and followed him.

41 He first found his own brother, Simon, and said to him, “We have found the Messiah!” (which is, being interpreted, Christ).

42 He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him, and said, “You are Simon the son of Jonah. You shall be called Cephas” (which is by interpretation, Peter).
