Title: Letter Recognition
Objective: By the end of this lesson, the kindergarteners will be able to recognize and identify some letters of the alphabet.

Instructional Steps | Materials |
1. Warm-up (5 minutes):- Gather the students in a circle or at their desks Show them a few alphabet flashcards or letter manipulatives and ask if they can recognize any of the letters. - Encourage student participation by having them share the names of the letters they know. - Recap the importance of recognizing and sounding out letters in words. | |
2. Letter Sound Review (5 minutes):- Choose a few letters that you have previously taught or would like to reinforce.- Write these letters on the chart paper or whiteboard.- Show the uppercase and lowercase versions of the letter using an alphabet poster or flashcard. | |
3. Practice: 5 minutes- Ask the students to take turns saying the name of the letter and its corresponding sound. Students practice saying the letter sound ('A' as in apple) and encourage them to repeat after you.

4. Magazine Picture Hunt (5 minutes):- Explain that they will be searching for pictures in magazines or printed materials that start with the letters they have learned. - Show examples of objects or images that begin with the letter 'A', and have students identify them. - Distribute magazines or printed pictures to each student. -Distribute letter manipulatives to students and let them explore and play with the letter 'A'. - Instruct the students to cut out pictures that correspond to the letters they know and glue them onto a piece of paper or into a notebook.- Encourage creativity and involvement of parents or guardians in completing this activity. | ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
5. Letter Recognition Game (5 minutes)- Arrange the students in a circle or around a table.- Place all the flashcards or letter manipulatives in a bag or container. - Pass the container around and have a letter from it. -Stand up with a word that starts with the chosen letter. - Other students can provide suggestions - Gather the students back together and review the letters they have learned today. - Encourage them to continue practicing recognizing and sounding out letters in - Provide positive feedback and reinforcement for their efforts. ![]() Note: Throughout the lesson, be observant of individual student needs and adjust the activities accordingly.
